For the time being, this page will only be covering Blythe and Neo-Blythe releases. Blythe comes in two other sizes, Petite (11 cm) and Middie (20 cm), with the full size being 28 cm. Blythe dolls are classified as 1:6 scale dolls, though her head is larger than that of most 1:3 scale dolls.
Blythe was originally produced by Kenner for just one year in 1972, with four hair colors and three hairstyles. In 2001, Takara began producing Neo-Blythe dolls. There are over 200 Neo-Blythe releases to date. Good Smile Company took over the production of Blythe dolls in 2021. Ashton Drake Galleries also produced replicas of the original Kenner dolls in 2005, though the skintones had a greener undertone than other dolls, hampering popularity.
Blythe doll releases are typically classified by the face mold and/or maker. The Neo-Blythe face molds are BL, EBL
(excellence), SBL (superior), RBL (radiance), FBL (fairest), RBL+, Radiance Renew, and Radiance Evolution. The different face
molds are close enough in appearance that you know it's our beloved Blythe, but subtle differences can be spotted by the
trained eye. They originally came on Licca bodies, which have slightly slimmer legs than Blythe bodies, and have bending arms.
They were produced on Neo-Blythe bodies that were more accurate reproductions of the original Kenner bodies starting with the introduction of the Excellent
face mold. The knees on the Neo-Blythe body have knees that click into place.
